Q1: Keara, what is your inspiration for practicing as a naturopathic doctor?
While I have always been interested in health and wellness, my journey to becoming a naturopathic doctor was quite a winding path! It really started when I experienced severe digestive issues after a year-long trip that left me seeking conventional medical help with little relief. Around that time I embarked on a corporate career as an accountant and was experiencing high levels of stress that led to a further deterioration of my health beyond just the digestive issues. Once I started working with a naturopathic doctor, and she was able to get to the root cause of my symptoms and bring my body back into balance, my entire health and life shifted. It was during this process that I discovered my passion for helping others to achieve the level of vibrant health that I was able to experience!
Q2: Can you tell us a little bit about your style of practice and clinical interests?
In working with my patients, my aim is always to truly understand what they are going through, and to determine the root cause of their symptoms. We can then work to balance their body at a foundational level, and then ultimately bring them to a place of vibrant health. I love educating my patients and helping them to connect with and understand their own bodies on a deeper level. I always work wholistically, including elements of diet and nutrient optimization, lifestyle, and mindset in treatment. My clinical interests include women’s health and hormonal balance, digestive concerns, stress management, as well as pre and post natal care.
Q3: What new therapies will you be bringing to Innate over the next few months?
I am very excited to be adding IV therapy and the prescription of bioidentical hormones to my practice over the next few months. IV therapy is a treatment that allows us to provide the body with high-dose micronutrients, which is a quick and direct way to correct for nutritional deficiencies, enhance detoxification, increase energy, provide anti-aging benefits and help the body to operate more efficiently. It can be used to treat a variety of conditions as well as to enhance wellness and optimize energy for those already far along on their health journey.
Utilizing bioidentical hormone therapy is an incredibly effective way to correct for hormonal imbalances, which can lead to a host of symptoms including low energy, weight gain, mood issues, advanced aging, and so much more.
I am so excited to be able to enhance my patients’ health outcomes by utilizing these therapies in the near future!
Q4: Do you have a favourite quotes or words of wisdom for your patients?
I always like to tell my patients that there is a reason they are feeling the way that they do. I want them to know that achieving a state of health and wellness is a lifelong journey that we should enjoy and have fun with. It is about progress, not perfection. Being healthy is not about deprivation, it’s about feeling well and energized to get even more enjoyment out of life!
My favourite quote is credited to Maya Angelou: “People don’t always remember what you say, or even what you do, but they always remember how you made them feel.”
