Have you ever had a moment when you felt something was just not right?

Maybe you had a sense of unease while walking through a parking lot or meeting someone for the first time. How did you respond? Did you shrug it off or dismiss it as illogical nonsense?

As a culture, we’re taught to be rational in our decision-making. But what about our inner voice? The gut feeling or whisper in the back of our head that tells us how we truly feel about a situation, regardless of its rationality.

Our senses guide us with what we can taste, smell, touch, see and hear. Generations ago we relied heavily on our instincts, taking cues from nature and the environment for survival. Today, we have simply lost touch with our ability to trust in our instincts.

Emotions manifest in our bodies, on both a physical and energetic level. Subtly, our bodies communicate with the energies around us. Certain energetic impulses can relate to a specific part of the body and or a chakra that may be weakened or imbalanced.

Each chakra represents a spiritual life lesson or challenge to help us gain a more in-depth understanding of our personal and spiritual power. This helps us learn how to overcome obstacles, let go of emotional blockages and walk the path towards spiritual consciousness.

One of the key purposes of the chakras are to provide a sound and useful link between the conscious mind and the natural world. The sixth chakra – “Ajna” in Sanskrit (commonly known as the Third Eye) is found in the space between the eyebrows. It encompasses the pituitary gland, eyes, head and the lower part of the brain. The powerful Third Eye is the centre of intuition, wisdom and the sixth sense.

The Third Eye holds a combination of facts, fears, personal experiences and memories that are continually active within the energy of the mental body. Distinguishing between what we believe to be true and what is genuinely true is at the core of this chakra.

A balanced sixth chakra holds the energy of spiritual awakening; movement and change; and trusting in the process of life’s beginnings and endings. It has the ability to release old thought patterns and embrace the new.

Our thoughts and attitudes play an enormous role in creating or destroying the health of our bodies. When in an unbalanced state, a major challenge with the sixth chakra manifests is an unwillingness to look inward and recognize and face our fears. Depression, for example, directly diminishes our immune system and affects our cells from healing because the body communicates with the mind.

Often, we can’t tap into our Third Eye and access our higher self, especially when we are scattered and distracted with overthinking. Negative thinking and emotions such as anger, jealousy, rancor, and resentment can prevent us from connecting with our higher selves. However, when our minds are calm and clear, and our hearts are open, we can see/feel/hear our guidance and messages more clearly. When we stop trying to manage our lives as an equation that needs to be solved and trust our instincts we experience the natural flow and grace of life.

We are individual energetic beings, living in an energetic universe (often referred to as Source) and have a connection to our higher selves. To tap into our Third Eye and tune into our intuition we can:

  • Slow down
  • Take time to listen to the voice in your head
  • Trust your gut instinct
  • Meditation/peaceful quiet daily reflection
