FAQs for Infant Care with a Chiropractor in Toronto

With Dr. Jonathan Cartile, DCMChiropractic care for infants is becoming increasingly popular among parents looking for natural ways to support their baby's health. An infant chiropractor can help address common issues like spinal misalignment, colic, and even acid reflux through gentle adjustments. Pediatric chiropractic care focuses on ensuring a baby’s nervous system is functioning optimally, promoting better sleep, digestion, and overall well-being. In this blog, we explore the benefits of infant chiropractic treatments and what parents can expect during a visit to a pediatric chiropractor with Dr. Jonathan Cartile.Q1: What Are the Benefits of Chiropractic Treatments for Infants and Children?Dr. Cartile: The nervous system is the first to develop in a fetus, and it controls all other systems in the body. As a pediatric chiropractor, I assess the spine to identify any misalignments or subluxations that may affect the nervous system. By addressing these misalignments through gentle pediatric chiropractic care, we can help improve your baby's posture, digestion, sleep, and overall health. Many parents report positive changes in their child’s development after seeking chiropractic care for issues like colic, acid reflux, and fussiness.Q2: How Soon Can a Parent Bring Their Baby In for Treatment?Dr. Cartile: Parents can bring their baby to the chiropractor as early as birth. My youngest patient was my son, just one hour after he was born. Getting a chiropractic adjustment early allows us to check for any spinal misalignments that may have occurred during the birthing process. The sooner we can assess the baby’s spine and nervous system, the sooner we can address any issues, giving your child the best start in life.Q3: What Do You Look at in an Infant Assessment?Dr. Cartile: During an assessment, I check for any signs [...]

Kaitlyn Wengler, RMT’s NEW Lymphatic Massage

Q&A with Kaitlyn Wengler, Registered Massage Therapist Q1: Kaitlyn, what exactly is Manual Lymphatic Drainage and who can it help? How to Build Mental Wellness in Kids

Q&A with Melody Leung, Psychotherapist Q1. What comes to mind when you think of mental wellness for children’? Just like physical wellness, everyone needs to work towards mental wellness too.  Unfortunately, mental wellness isn’t always discussed openly so children haven’t had as much opportunity to learn how to take care of their mental health. Mental wellness represents how we are feeling mentally.  Children who are feeling mentally well are often those that feel confident, are resilient, and satisfied with their lives. […]

Self-Care and Mental Health Practices for Better Well-Being

Self-Care for Mental Health in Today’s SocietyThe phrase “self-care” was one of 2017’s mental health buzz terms and for good reasons. As a society, we are working more hours, hooked into our technical devices longer, creating endless piles of to-do lists. This lifestyle impacts self-care and mental health, leading to burnout and emotional exhaustion. The pressure to meet societal expectations through social media further compounds stress as people compare themselves in the race for acceptance and validation. To combat these challenges, engaging in a meaningful self-care routine has become an important strategy. Self-care for mental health involves intentional practices that support well-being by helping individuals recharge, reduce stress, and develop healthier habits. Taking time for self-care activities—whether it's regular exercise, journaling, or relaxation—helps restore emotional balance and maintain better health and well-being.Strategies to Improve Mental Well-Being NaturallyBetween friends or colleagues, casual discussions of wine and Netflix binges are the beginner’s version of self-help. Perhaps the goal for 2018 is to take the concept of self-care to a new level.Let’s be clear, there is no right or wrong way to engage in self-care. But what if the new challenge is to engage in self-care that isn’t just for immediate release but a step towards meeting a larger need? For example, instead of always choosing a Netflix binge, pick up that book you’ve been meaning to read. Instead of always choosing a glass of wine or a pour of bourbon, go to bed early so you can wake up in time for a morning run.Emotional Wellness Strategies for Lasting ImpactThe idea is that self-care is to move beyond quick fixes and embrace practices that create sustainable mental wellness. Emotional self-care encourages us to engage in behaviours that offer [...]

Success in Managing PMS with Acupuncture and TCM

Symptoms of PMS and Common Relief MethodsManaging PMS with acupuncture offers a natural, holistic approach to alleviating symptoms like mood swings, headaches, tender breasts, acne, cramps, and back pain. Relief Acupuncture for Perimenopause

What is Perimenopause?Acupuncture for perimenopause offers an effective treatment for managing the transition period around menopause, where hormonal and physiological changes occur. Perimenopause refers to a period around menopause, which marks a transition period of female’s sexual function from maturity to decline or to the end of reproductive time. This transition period usually starts in the mid-40s, but some females might even start this process as early as their late-30s. Perimenopause is actually a normal process for females to have some physiological changes. Due to body constitution differences, and social and psychological factors, females who could not adapt to this physiological transition smoothly, would develop perimenopausal syndrome accordingly. What Causes Perimenopausal Symptoms?Perimenopause involves a series of clinical symptoms caused by endocrine (i.e., reproductive endocrine and neuroendocrine) disorders and autonomic dysfunction which are triggered by decreased estrogen level. As ovarian function declines to complete loss, both blood estrogen and progesterone levels drop, which breaks up the balance of hypothalamus-pituitary-ovarian axis, and thus leads to autonomic dysfunction.Common Symptoms of PerimenopauseTypical symptoms are irregular periods (i.e., the coming period is unpredictable as the length of time between two periods varies dramatically).Popular clinical symptoms include sleep disorders (i.e., insomnia, shallow sleep, easy to wake up, dreaminess), sweating after hot flashes, fatigue, palpitation, dizziness, ear ringing, irritability, depression, anxiety, joint pain (osteoarthritis), low back sore, and heel pain.Other common clinical symptoms include forgetfulness, breast fullness, abnormal skin sensations, knee weakness, decreased sexual desire, intercourse pain, etc.The symptoms vary in severity and may show up partially or entirely in some severe cases.Acupuncture and Perimenopause in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM)According to TCM theory, the degeneration of the kidney’s function is the fundamental pathogenesis. Deficiency of the conception vessel and penetrating vessel leads to [...]
